Saharia's Story

Saharia is nine years old, living on the Gold Coast with her parents, Meisha, Yoanis and her younger sister, Amaraia. Like many kids her age, she loves reading mystery novels, rollercoasters and also enjoys dancing, swimming and roller skating.

Shortly after she was born, during the Healthy Hearing Screening Program, Saharia was diagnosed with unilateral severe to profound hearing loss in her right ear. During this test, Saraharia was assessed as having functioning hearing in her left ear.

When she was three years old, the hearing in her left ear dropped, with her experiencing mild to moderate hearing loss. The hearing in her left ear was stable until June of this year, when the family were told that Saharia’s left ear had severe to profound hearing loss.
