Meet Bronwen, Maddie & Leila

Three generations, one journey with Hear and Say

In 1991, Bronwen’s twins, Hamish and Madeleine, were diagnosed with hearing loss as babies. Living and working as a remote-area nurse in outback Queensland, Bronwen travelled hundreds of kilometres to Brisbane so her children could access the care they needed.

Decades later, Bronwen finds herself on that journey again, this time as a grandmother. Madeleine’s daughter, Leila, was also diagnosed with hearing loss as a newborn. Now two years old, Leila is joyful, curious, and full of life. She attends Hear and Say’s playgroup every week, just like her mum once did, with Bronwen again by their side.

Thanks to supporters like you, Hear and Say has walked alongside this family for over 30 years and continues to help children like Leila thrive.
